Cookie Policy
This page explains the cookies and similar technologies Slate uses. Some are needed for Slate to work at all, and others help us understand how it is used so we can improve it.
Cookies Slate needs to work
These cannot be turned off without breaking the service.
- Sign-in cookie (
webstrake_session_token). Set by the webStrake accounts service when you sign in. It keeps you signed in as you move around Slate. - Security token (
__Host-csrf.token). Protects against cross-site request forgery, an attack where another website tries to make your browser perform an action in Slate without your knowledge. It is checked whenever you save something. - Theme (
theme). Remembers whether you chose the light or dark appearance, so the correct one shows from the moment a page loads.
Measurement
We use Google Analytics and Firebase analytics across our website, web app and mobile apps to understand how Slate is used: which screens are opened, which features are used, and where people run into trouble. These services may set cookies, or use equivalent identifiers on mobile, to tell one visit from another.
We use this for measurement and product improvement. We do not use it to show advertising in Slate, and we do not use it for advertising directed at children.
Storage on your device
The Slate mobile apps and the browser keep a small notification inbox on your own device, so notices you have already received can be shown without fetching them again. It stays on your device and is cleared when you sign out or clear your browser or app data.
Cookies set by services we use
Some screens load services that may set cookies of their own: Google Maps on the pages that show attendance zones and bus routes, and Cashfree on the online fee payment page. Their own terms apply to those cookies.
Your choices
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and limit analytics identifiers in your device settings on mobile. If you block the sign-in or security cookie, Slate will not be able to sign you in, because both are required to use the service at all.
Cookies set when you sign in are also covered by the webStrake Privacy Policy.

If we add or change the technologies we use, we will update this page and the date shown below.
